The New Mode Collective

After an alumni of AMFI came in the news because of transgressive behaviour, the organisation denied that they had a part in this, and didn’t recognise the person in the allegations. But while they tried to deny it, it backfired immediately. As this student created an organisation that connected all parts of the industry with each other, the school was working closely with him together after giving him the maximum score for his graduation. Also other alumni remembered that this person almost already got suspended before. And with giving him good grades they created a breeding ground for this transgressive behaviour. And it was obvious that the leaders, or better said head of the departments, were and are responsible for this culture.
Despite that in our opinion who were responsible for the culture needed to be sacked collectively, we ourselves wanted to focus on the build up of a student collective. A collective that looked constructively as a counterweight to the almost natural dominant toxic culture AMFI attracts and is subconsciously created through reward only the end result instead of also the persons behaviour.
Our first hurdle was how we would call the student council. After brainstorming we ended up with several names that could describe our main focus. In the end we ended up with ‘The New Mode Collective’ or called short ‘TNMC’.
As ‘mode’ is explained as ‘way of doing’ and also is dutch for fashion it connected for us the dots. As through experience we knew the school was always focussed on the individual as they believed this was the way to find a needle in a haystack that would be the special one. So it all was a counterweight to the subconscious created culture and behaviour of students.

As the old culture translated to how people clothed themselves all in black, and this also be really in the corporate identity of AMFI, we wanted for TNMC a more colourful approach. So it might spark a bit of joy into the school’s culture. Eventually a logo was created on the base of the most sustainable print colors that also connected to the more digitalising world since the corona pandemic.
Eventually after almost everything was setup and as I’m were graduating my position of secretary became vacant. While we agreed that I would finish the academic year, eventually our chair wanted a personal secretary and as I rejected she started to behave toxically. When I adressed this directly to her and this was not the way collaboration work, she went along with student-participation to kick me out.
Two months after I got a message of cliënt participation, they wanted to speak to me about the case as she came complaining for the second time. As a same incident happened again I just said there was only one matching factor in both cases. And that this shows how hard a cultural change is… especially when you kick out people without a proper research.
It shows how hard it is to change a culture, especially when you cut out people who recognise it tho are able to recognise it due to their experience with the old culture.as Like for instance our schoolhead who was always supporting the good cause beng fired and nobody stepping up for him. Months later the TNMC-communication changed in all black again which shows it might be even impossible to change the culture in this school. But at least we tried, and it shows my constructive mindset.
![]() German autobrand Mercedes Benz used this add to show that the two sides of the brain have a different function to keep it balanced. The culture at AMFI really showed a disbalance of these two parts of the brain working together. | ![]() Although you would expect that a creative kind of education would stimulate the right part, AMFI stimulated mostly the left part by creating a too heavy study-program. People were planning and calculating constantly their study, and almost never planned any off time as it wasn't teached how important that is on the long term. | ![]() To me these images stood really for the culture as people wore mostly black because they didn't want to feel to much as they constantly were stressed because of the study-load. It's why we with The New Mode Collective wanted to focus on the right part of the brain. |

We agreed that 'The New' would placed towards the side, so mode collective would be more prominent on the foreground. |
![]() The final logo, this time placed on the back of a letter. The multiple playing of the lines gives it a new kind of depth, which we liked as it really contrasts on the basic AMFI logo. | ![]() To get members we needed to do acquisition at stores which our members could be interested in. The idea that we would promote them over some years, so the member could get reduction was interesting. And the reason I've written a draft. | ![]() Photo of the founders of The New Mode Collective and the first board. |
